Looks like Obama’s plans to nationalize 16% of the American economy are (fortunately) going right into the crapper.
The health care reform legislation working its way through Congress has lost support over the past month. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 44% of U.S. voters are at least somewhat in favor of the reform effort while 53% are at least somewhat opposed.
Today’s 44% level of support is down from 46% two weeks ago, and 50% in late June.
Opposition has grown from 45% in late June to 49% two weeks ago and 53% today.
As in earlier surveys, those with strong opinions are more likely to oppose the plan rather than support it. The current numbers: 24% strongly favor and 37% strongly oppose.
The more people learn about what the Dems want to do to our health care system, the more they don’t like it, and it’s only gonna get worse. This is what happens when you do everything ass backwards, as the Dems have done here. There are about 250 million insured Americans who are essentially happy with their health care, but would like efforts made to reduce their insurance premiums. There are about 18 million Americans without health insurance if you throw out the illegal aliens, people who can afford insurance but don’t want to buy it, and people who qualify for Medicaid but refuse to apply.
The Dems should have focused on the 250 million insured people and tried to come up with legislation that would keep those people happy while still insuring those without coverage. Instead, they foolishly focused on the small minority of uninsured Americans, while throwing the majority to the wolves. But, that would have meant giving up their dream of socialized medicine. See, it’s all about socialism, not about finding the best solution to the problem. Any sort of market based health care reform is anathema to these people, even if it would work.
Well, it’s time for them to lick their wounds and go back to the drawing board. Meanwhile, this is an enormous blow to Obama, who has already failed to pass an effective economic stimulus bill, failed to pass environmental legislation, failed to pass card check, and now looks as if he’ll fail to pass more than a token health care bill. And Obama knows he’s screwed, which is why he’s practically begging the Blue Dog Democrats to pass health care reform soon. Obama will be lucky if he can get something passed by the end of the year, let alone by the August recess.
