Roland Burris stated that the reason he did not mention the fact that Blago’s brother Robert asked him for $10,000 in exchange for being considered for Obama’s vacant U.S. Senate seat was that he was never asked. Too bad for Burris and all the rest of us, that doesn’t happen to be the case. Here are a few of questions which should have prompted Burris to discuss Robert Blagojevich asking Burris for money:
Rep. Jim Durkin: “Did you talk to any members of the governor’s staff or anyone closely related to the governor, including family members or any lobbyists connected with him, including, let me throw out some names — John Harris, Rob Blagojevich, Doug Scofield, Bob Greenleaf, Lon Monk, John Wyma? Did you talk to anybody . . . associated with the governor about your desire to seek the appointment prior to the governor’s arrest?”
Durkin: “I guess the point is I was trying to ask: Did you speak to anybody who was on the governor’s staff prior to the governor’s arrest or anybody, any of those individuals or anybody who is closely related to the governor?”
So the transcripts show that Burris is a damned liar. What a surprise, it’s not like it’s the first time or anything. Will Harry Reid do the smart thing and have this guy tossed out of the Senate, or will he batten down the hatches and hope the whole thing blows over? I’d bet money it’ll be the former rather than the later.
