Wow, the Gwen Ifill story is even worse than I thought

As if it isn’t bad enough that Gwen Ifill, the moderator for the vice presidential debate, has written a flattering book about Barack Obama, to be released on Inauguration Day (assuming Obama wins the election). Now we find out that Gwen Ifill never told the Debate Commission or the McCain campaign that she had written the Obama book.

The host of PBS’ “Washington Week” and senior correspondent on “The NewsHour” said she did not tell the Commission on Presidential Debates about the book. The commission had no immediate comment when contacted by The Associated Press. A spokeswoman for John McCain’s campaign did not immediately return phone and e-mail messages.

So, the argument that Ifill could still be a good moderator despite writing the book pretty much goes out the window now that we know she hid the fact that she wrote the book. She knew the book was a major conflict of interest and tried to cover it up. This political season keeps getting more and more outrageous. Do we have any hope of the Palin/Biden debate being fair, or should we pretty much just assume it’s going to be completely rigged in Biden’s favor?
