I’ve been blogging at MND for a couple of years. When I started, I was using the handle “Brunette Republican Sex Kitten”, and the admin who invited me knew this. I’ve been using it since.
I attracted a lot of vitriol by pointing out that Sarah Palin is a bad mother and that the GOP shouldn’t condone this, and apparently some commenters demanded that I reveal my real name, presumably so that they could mail me bombs. I say “apparently” because my MND posts have been taken down so I have no way of reading whatever comments were made on them.
My great-aunt died late last week, so I spent the weekend visiting my grandmother, her sister, and there’s no internet access at Grandmother’s house. I returned home Sunday night and on Monday morning tried to log in to MND to make a post I had written over the weekend. When I couldn’t log in, I checked my email and found a cryptic message from MND asking, “Have you made a decision yet?” and also a message explaining how I could access my new Blogwonks account.
I wrote back and was informed that the cryptic email had been a reference to an earlier email I never received, in which the MND admin had told me I was going to have to start using a real-sounding name. Because I was out of town for the weekend and didn’t get a chance to hear that the handle I had been using for two years was suddenly a problem, my MND blog was cancelled.
Had I known my nickname was a problem I would have been happy to change it, but I wasn’t given that opportunity.
I don’t yet know if I’ll continue blogging here. I’ve started a couple of blogspot blogs focusing on more specific areas of my interests, so I might just focus on those. I’ll decide that later.
I regret very much no longer being a part of MND.
