Republicans Ordered to Have No Heart

Posted by Doug Powers On September - 5 - 2008

Boy, you just can’t win. The left always says that Republicans have no heart, so when McCain and Palin try to get heart, they receive a cease and desist order.

From TMZ:

Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.

Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic “Barracuda” as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart’s rep, who says “The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission.”

It’s funny, because “copyright” concerns among entertainers usually are not two-way streets.

Does Heart send money to the members of Led Zeppelin every time they play one of Zep’s songs (which is often)?

This doesn’t pertain to Heart specifically, but I’ve heard numerous songs that feature the actual voices of politicians delivering speeches. Can the politician in question send a “cease and desist” order to the band? Can they receive royalty money?

At concerts, when the artists show pictures on the jumbo-tons of global leaders and events from around the world, are the photographers who took those photos compensated? I’d guess rarely.

  1. Squiggy Said,

I’m pretty sure that if you bought and paid for a song, you can play it as loud as you want to. And as long as you’re not selling it, it doesn’t matter how many people hear it.

If I were McCain or Palin, I’d send Ann and Nancy a letter saying “Thank you for your support of our candidacy. And as regards your request - get bent“.
