Not Quite What Obama was Hoping For

Posted by Eye Doc On August - 26 - 2008

Well, the first night of the Democratic Party’s convention in Denver has indeed produced a bounce in Barack Obama’s poll numbers. The only problem is, Obama’s poll numbers are  bouncing the wrong way and getting worse instead of getting better.

The Democratic National Convention has begun and the poll numbers are bouncing, but not in the direction that most people anticipated.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows Barack Obama attracting 44% of the vote while John McCain also earns 44%. When “leaners” are included, it’s still tied with Obama at 46% and McCain at 46%. Yesterday, with leaners, Obama had a three-point advantage over McCain.

My guess is that the stories about Obama’s close ties to the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, and the convicted felon Tony Rezko, are starting to have the anticipated effect.  My prediction was that Obama would only get a 2-3 point bounce from the convention overall because after 18 months of trying to sell “hope and change” without much effect on his poll numbers I didn’t think the convention would have much of an impact. But, it turns out that my conservative estimate may have not been conservative enough.
