To those who believe that a philosopher named Jesus once walked the earth and was a great moral teacher, but who nevertheless wasn’t the Son of God, C.S. Lewis once proposed a trilemma called “Lord, liar or lunatic.”

The challenge was simply this: If Jesus was not the son of God, then taking into account the claims he made would mean that he was either insane, lying, or a little of both — thereby negating the “great moral teacher” claims of some non-believers.

Since the adulation of Barack Obama has nearly reached messianic levels among **Democrats and the mainstream media (”Today’s redundancy is brought to you by Goodyear Tires — get there!“), I thought of the Lord, liar or lunatic challenge after I saw the short video of Barack Obama in Israel saying the following:

Now, in terms of knowing my commitments, you don’t have to just look at my words, you can look at my deeds. Just this past week, we passed out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, which is my committee, a bill to call for divestment from Iran, as a way of ratcheting up the pressure to ensure that they don’t obtain a nuclear weapon.

As John at Powerline pointed out, Obama is not a member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. Three options: 1) Obama thinks he’s a member of that committee, 2) he just made it up, or 3) as The Way, The Truth and The Light, he oversees all committees.

Lord, liar or lunatic? At least I’ve managed to eliminate the first option as a possibility. It’s a good thing for Obama that Democrats don’t let little things like facts cloud their lack of judgement.
