John McCain: The Maytag Repairman of Politics

July 23rd, 2008 by Doug Powers

As hundreds of mainstream media journalists and talking heads trail Barack Obama as he plays make-believe president overseas, John McCain has been attempting to draw attention to his lonely campaign.

Some have suggested that McCain announce his choice for Vice President this week to attempt to overshadow Obama, but it looks like McCain is getting a little press coverage without announcing his Veep choice — very little press coverage.

According to the Manchester Union Leader, while in New Hampshire, McCain managed to get one reporter to cover him:

In Manchester last night, there was just one reporter and one photographer waiting for McCain as his plane — a white, blue and gold Boeing 737-400 emblazoned with his campaign slogan, “Reform, Prosperity, Peace” — touched down on the Wiggins Airways tarmac.

If Senator McCain wants to cease being deluged by a lack of attention, he’ll need to do something Obama-esque to woo reporters to New Hampshire, such as walk across Lake Winnipesaukee.

“Uh, that reporter’s not here to see you, Senator… Weird Al Yankovic is on the plane.”
