Some political disagreements aside, I always liked Tim Russert. He was a family guy, was passionate about politics, and loved the Buffalo Bills (as a Detroit Lions fan I can empathize with the pain on a much greater scale).
This election season was already shaping up to be fairly lousy, but without Russert, it’ll be just a little lousier.
When it comes to mainstream media journalists, I’m not looking for one whose not a liberal (that seems to be asking just a little too much), I’m just looking for one whose feet touch the ground, and Russert’s seemed to.
Here’s Tom Brokaw on NBC announcing Russert’s death Friday afternoon:

Rest in Peace Tim. God bless you and your family in this time of grief.
Tim was a gentleman and a patriot. His politics were not my politics, but at least he attempted to remain fair and he was the bane of any politician, Republican or Democrat who didn’t come properly prepared for the grilling they would receive.
He remained a friend of most of those he so grilled to the point that his loss has been felt on both sides of the political spectrum.
Tim Russert was not perfect, but he was a man of honor and a good man.
I will miss his face during this election and expecially on Sunday mornings.
