Well, one thing you can say for some throughout history… “At least their consistent”.
Today Time Magazine has once again decided to walk in its prior footsteps….
What do i mean? Easy, I mean that Person of the Year has been selected, and the award goes to Putin!
So what does that have to do with Adolf Hitler, and Joseph Stalin?
Well Hitler won the title in 1938, just before he and Stalin got together (Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact / Nazi-Soviet Pact / Stalin Pact / German-Soviet Non-aggression Pact), to take over Europe and share the spoils…
Comrade Stalin also won the same award… about the time that Hitler double crossed his ‘friend’ and proceeded to renege on the deal and take all of Europe and Russia, and the Middle East, and Africa, and
And now? Well time has seen fit to select Putin. Though he wasnt up against much competition… according to the article, it was either that, Gore, or JL Rowling.
The Time piece does point out prior winners of their award (Bono being one example), but neglected to list other heroes of socialism that they thought were just peachy too.
I wonder why?
Could it be that these heroes, whose combined excursions and policies resulted in the death and torture of literally millions of people with numbers exceeding 40 million with ease, may have been a bad choice?
Well one thing is certain, Time magazine has managed to pull the cover images from the articles they have had them openly displayed on for years and freely available.
Oh dont forget that they have also awarded Deng Xiaoping in 1986
And I will leave it to you to also check out all the others like Che Guevara making the cover aug 8 1960, with Mao, and Khrushchev in the background. Though not a man of the year cover, he didnt live long enough. Though Castro made it nine times to the cover, never made man of the year, but he is still in office so maybe next year if they dont pick Chavez.
As George Santayana said, Those who refuse to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.
